Edge glue boards together. Ensure they are the same thickness. It all depends on you woodworking skills and desired results.
If you don't want nail head to show on top, attach them by using nails or wood screws that go thru a board(s) on the underside but not all the way thru the planks. There are really cool decorative nails on line with things like stars on the nail heads though. You could glue the planks together with a long clamp for clamping doors or windows. Add legs with either angled screws or even L brackets underneath. Recycle legs from and old table, use 2 x 4's or even larger for legs. Sand the top and sides, stain or seal with furniture oil.
Nail your planks into place. Go with polyurethane for the tops finish
But for a combination of usability and durability, you can't beat polyurethane. Oil-based poly, which dries slower than water-based, is best for beginners because it allows more working time.

Join them together underneath with fixing plates or battens, or make a frame and nail or screw the boards in place. Best wishes.
You can use biscuits to join them together and secure with glue. Hold into place with clamps until the glue is dry.

I lay the planks side by side then use 2 cross planks to hold them together, using nails on every board. You can flip it over and sand all the sides and top well then stain or paint.
