How to repair the top on a slide-out pedestal table?

Cassie
by Cassie
I salvaged this pedestal table from a barter shop that was closing down. I had planned on just using the base (the top is in as bad shape as it looks!), but I realized that the slides were in near perfect condition. Does anybody have any ideas about how to attach a new top to the slides? How to construct the leaf for the middle? Thank you!

very pretty table!I'm thinking you may need either to replace a few piece of wood and or sand each piece stain /paint !You need elbow grease too! post when you decide xo

I agree. It looks like a few of the boards may be warped and need replacing. Other than that nice table!

@Cassie by what I understand, you are wanting to replace the current top, keep and repair the current apron and construct a new leaf with apron. Is that correct? If so it would help to see the underside of the top.

@Cassie have you checked to see if you can purchase a round table top (they are made of pine and are called "laminate", at HoDe or L's in the size you need? If so you can cut it in half to use it for the half round sides and buy another piece of rectangle "laminate" in a size to use to make the leaf along with a one by to match the size of the apron.

ARGHHH. Ive been looking for a coffee table like this for 3 years now. Darn it. You can just buy more pieces of 2 x 4 for the top and cut them to the size. Easy peasy.

Thanks for the reply! I am more interested in functioning slide-outs though. I know I could easily make a new top, I'm just trying to restore it to be as original as possible using the existing slides.

@Cassie Did you see my comment above? With that you should be able to reuse the current slides.
