Thinking of a butcher block top, about18” wide and approx 50-60” long with storage underneath.

Consider getting a used buffet, or bottom form a china cabinet. Look at thrift shops. I go tone for $75.00 which I made into a TV stand. Then add you top. see below for an example.

do you want it fixed like Lisa S's idea above, or do you want to be able to roll it out of the way, with locking casters to keep it steady while working on it? For a rolling island, you could start with a large cart for a base..
Be sure to have an electrical outlet on it somewhere! And slide-out shelves!
