Considering how much lumber has increased in price recently, unless you already have all the requisite lumber, tools and supplies, it may be more cost effective to purchase a ready-made bench, then swap the legs to a style that is more MCM.

Clean lines and hairpin legs come to mind with mcm for me. You could build a regular bench and add baskets for pull out boxes underneath for shoes if you want them hidden. If you don't need them hidden, then shelves underneath would work but then you would want to have closed in ends.

You basically need a rectangle box the hight you need then add a shelf and add dividers for shoes
