Which wood is best for diy shelf

  • Almost anything is good! Just hop over to your local hardware, home improvement center or lumber yard! They have a large variety of pre cut shelves available, both paint and stain grade or you can purchase a hunk of wood and make your own!

    It depends on what you are going to put on the shelf and are You going to stain it. When I make a shelf system, I generally like to use stair treads because they are strong and come in a variety of lengths and they are easy to stain or paint.

    Agreed, any type of wood would work great! Pine will be the least expensive

    Some wood will appeal to you more than others. Pine tends to take stain unevenly although it is usually cheaper. Look for something that will meet your needs as far as width. It should be nice and straight.
