I was asked if I had any sofa tables to redo for a friend. I have a storage full of furniture and odd and end pieces. I did not have a sofa table but I had a 2x12 and some kitchen table legs. I will pull the legs off of any piece of furniture I find in the trash. Legs are expensive to buy and I am a very frugal diy’er. I cut the 2x12 in half as my friend wanted a 6ft sofa table. I disassembled the old kitchen table and used the legs and the pieces that hold the legs on. I used 2- 1x2’s for the front, back and side pieces. After it was all assembled I sanded it and I stain shaded the top with sunflowers on each end and painted the bottom. My friend absolutely loved it and I now have several requests to make more, I might even make myself one!

What do you usually use to seal the table-tops of pieces like this? (I think probably not polyurethane, since that would turn yellow over time.) Do you use different seals/finishes depending on how the piece will be used? Thanks!

This is stunning! Love all the repurposing you did to make it.
My question is, could one use railing spndles as legs if they were sturdy? The Habitat for Humanity store near me has oodles of spindles and I always wonder if they could be used for table legs.
