The Perfect Farmhouse Console Table

Hey everyone! Melissa from Welcome to the Woods here :) I built a beautiful farmhouse console table that was easy to put together with mostly 2 x 4's and leftover lumber.
First I measured and cut all my lumber. I found these 2 x 4’s at a garage sale for $1/8ft board. They had been in someone’s garden holding a trellis, hence the “chevron” stripes. I cut four pieces for the four legs, four pieces for the width supports, and two long pieces for the length supports.
Next I got to work building the legs. Because I was building by myself, I used cement blocks to be sure I had right angles and had something to push against. I lined up my boards against the cement, made sure it was all flush, and screwed them together.
I laid everything down on the garage floor to measure and see how it was going to look. Next came painting the lumber white. Initially I planned to make the top of this table an antique window from my parent's farm.
I had already  refurbished the window to a point where it just needed painting. I used cement blocks to lay out all the pieces and start painting.
I also added a shelf using 1 x 6's across the bottom of the console table. This is what it looked like...
Even though I replaced the caulking that held the window glass in, this 100 year old window was still fragile. Not even a year after building, my sister accidentally broke a pane of the glass. I didn't have a replacement window so instead I kept with a farmhouse style by installing a stained wood top.
I ran 1 x 4 planks along the top of the console table and stained them a jacobean finish. I also added caulk in the seams and repainted it white at this time.
I actually like this look even more than the window tabletop, even though it has much less history.
