I thought very hard about this challenge but all I ever came back to was a table. So, a table it will become!
Here Is what I started with. A tomato cage, one round from a spool, a premade pressboard table top, and rope.
I began fitting all the pieces together and I didn’t even realize how well this was going to all fit together until I tried it out! This will be the bottom of the table.
For the pressboard top I cut off the tomato cage so it would be table height. Then I put it on the bottom side at the top and drew circles where I needed to drill for it to insert into the piece of pressboard.
I painted it out brown color because I like the green and brown together. It matched my furniture on my front porch. You could paint it out any color you wanted.
Hoops, forgot to say I cut off the pokey end of the tomato cage.
To attach to the top to the tomato cage I used plumbers tape that we had on hand. I think it might also be called strapping tape.? I did take off the metal fasteners that were on the table previously.
So here it is all done, at least I thought. It was way too rickety, so I cut another section down. I really did like it this way but it just wasn’t stable enough.
To help tie the rope that I put on the vertical part of it I added some more to cover up the bottom part of the cage.
Here it is complete. I love that a wine bottle can sit in the bottom. I showed a neighbor and he thought the other little hole to the right could fit a shot glass!
And here it is in it’s final place on my front deck for my coffee cup to sit out in the morning as I watch the sunrise, and a beverage at night to watch the sunset!
