I wanted to make a bedroom set for a sweet couple that I know and it turned out pretty nice. Here's how I made it, all the wood is pine.
After I decided what size bed I want to make, I wrote down the size of the mattress and add 1 inch to each side of the mattress for room to change the sheet.

I cut the 1x6 to size with my table saw and then I cut the post. After laying them out to double check the size ( remember to always measure twice and cut once) and see if I needed to adjust the size. Sometimes wood can be a little different in size. Once I got the right size, then I cut the 1x4 to fit. Kreg the top and bottom trim boards to the post and then lay out my 1x6 on the front and bottom trim boards. I then attached the trim boards on back and nailed it all together. ( that will hide your pocket holes) once I finished that I measured the 2x4 for the top and cut it to size. then I glue and screwed it in place. I cut the 2x6 to size. I then glue and nailed it to the 2x4 on top.

repeat the same steps from the headboard, just cut the 1x6 smaller ( see measure on footboard)
I then cut the 2x10 to size and attached the to the headboard and footboard.
Use old scrap board to test the stain before jumping in and finding that it is not the stain you want. Been there done that lol.
