Upcycled DIY Vintage Suitcase Table

Find out how to easily create your own upcycled vintage suitcase table from items you may already have around the house and make some truly unique and useful decor!

I scored a couple of fantastic vintage suitcases at a neighborhood garage sale for pennies:

As I’d been wanting to create a groovy suitcase table for awhile, I put on my refashionista thinking cap and put together the rest of the ingredients from my storage room and stash:

I decided to transform the suitcase that was in the worst condition:

It was stained, rusty and the interior lining was more than a bit moldy and smelly – the perfect upcycling candidate!

I had a broken roadside find chair in storage that made the perfect sturdy base for my table!

I absolutely love it when furniture is stamped with the manufacturing date!

First I removed the interior of the suitcase and gave it a good clean. Getting rid of the inside lining completely removed the smell & a wipe with mild soap & water was all that was needed to clean up the interior.

Then removed all of the excess wood from the chair so it could be used as the base of the table.

I taped off the leather handle of the suitcase.

Then gave the chair base and suitcase a few coats of pretty turquoise spray paint.

While the paint was drying I grabbed some coordinating vintage fabric, cardboard, scissors & my trusty glue gun.

Using the interior pieces as a template, I chopped up the cardboard and covered it with the vintage fabric.

Then covered the exterior edge of the chair base with a strip of fabric too.

Once the paint was completely dry I attached the the suitcase to the chair base with a few sturdy screws.

Then secured the fancy new interior pieces with all purpose glue.

Et voila! My quirky suitcase table was ready for action!
