Fitting out my new garage with a workbench and shelves. They need to be heavy duty to carry whatever might come along but also be easy to construct. I used normal building materials to keep the cost down and kept the design simple because frankly, I need the time to do other things! Make sure to watch the video at the end of the blog for all tips & tricks associated with this job.

Getting things level and plumb

This cleared empty space is ideal for my new workbench. First up make sure things are plumb and level. Work to level lines on the wall and find fixing points, in my case, the wall studs. Using wall framing timber fixed to the wall at the desired height for bench and shelf cleats. You Tube video at end detail more info.

Locate all fixing points.

Fix with heavy duty screws (bugle batten screws). You Tube video at end detail more info.

Assemble

Build the frame as a seperate unit and lift into place for final assembly. You Tube video at end detail more info.

Frame in place

Lift the frame into place and attach to the wall cleats. You Tube video at end detail more info.

Fit the bench top

Cut the bench top and fit. I used housing sheet flooring. You could just as easily use timber flooring or thick boards clamped together. You Tube video at end detail more info.

All Finished

Bench top is glued and nailed in place. Already to load up the shelf and use this bench as a handy workplace. Make sure to watch the video for helpful tips & tricks and the full step by step procedure. You Tube video at end detail more info.

The final product all ready to go. Make sure to watch this video for more tips & tricks taking you step by step through all construction points.
