You are only limited by your imagination when it comes to having a garden. Regardless of space and sunlight, you can grow vegetables and herbs in just about any location. Here are a few of the ways I do it.
This is my tomato wagon. Because of a short growing season here in North Carolina I use plants instead of seeds. I have a very shady yard so I have my tomatoes in a wagon. I move them as needed. These are cherry tomatoes and yellow pear tomatoes. I will put cages on them soon. They get TALL and they produce well into fall.
These pepper plants are in what are called "grow pots" or "smart pots". They come in 1,2,5,10 gallon sizes. They are porous and have handles. Sit them on your deck or anywhere, really. They are super cheap and fold up when not in use. I can move them whenever needed.
Hang pallets and put plants in them. Great for herbs. These are red potatoes. Not only will they make beautiful vines, they will produce potatoes.
Another view of my pallets.
We tore out an old shelf from our basement and it turned out to be perfect for planting. My husband added legs. All winter, every time I buy lettuce, bokchoy,or onions, I keep the ends and start them in water. Then they get planted. Do this and grow your own greens. Works great in pots too.
Whenever I have peppers, I scrape out the seeds and save them. In the spring, they get planted.
I am no expert, but this tiny garden yields so many tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, squash and potatoes...I made hot sauce, chutney, salsa, pickles, tomato sauce last year plus used everything in my recipes. And don't forget, playing in the dirt is good for you...the microbes in soil improve your health! So get out there and garden!
