How To Create A Faux Galvanized Metal Finish

This is an easy technique for creating a faux galvanized metal finish with paint. For the full tutorial, including links to exact products used, please visit: http://canarystreetcrafts.com/faux-galvanized-metal-finish/
I picked up this pair of metal watering cans at a yard sale last summer. I love old watering cans, but the finish on these didn't match my style at all.
Use several different colors to create highlights and lowlights. This really helps to give the finish a galvanized look.

To make it look even more authentic, you can give it a faux rusted finish.

I concentrated on the areas where I felt the can would naturally rust over time.

I also decided to paint that little square in the center with chalkboard paint.

I LOVE this! I think it is one of the prettiest "faux" I've ever seen! My question is, can this technique be used on non-metal surfaces? Thanks, sweetie!
