It's always nice to see how other people decorate - especially their outdoor spaces. We recently saw some great decorating ideas when we were bicycling in Germany, and we thought it would be fun to share them with you. Europeans often have much smaller lawns and garden spaces than we do here in the United States, and they tend to value their small pieces of real estate. They take great efforts to add personal touches, flowers, planters, and small sculptures to add a personal touch and to make spending time in these spaces really special.
Lanterns and flowers by the front door are a nice way to enhance the area and to welcome guests. In the evenings, they light the candles which cast a soft glow over the area.
Window boxes add color and softness to the exterior of your home. Using flowers that flow over the side make more of an impact. There is usually more than one color of flower in the window boxes, and they often have more than one type of flower.
A home that has no architectural details will look better with some vines and greenery and window boxes. This plain square building is enhanced by the addition of the red flowers in the window boxes. The climbing vines soften the hard edges of the building.
If a window looks too small or too plain, painting a border in a contrasting color around it can take the place of an actual window frame. From a distance, the paint looks like a built-in frame. Painting a faux border like this is a great way to fool the eye and add interest, but at the same time, it is a lot easier and a lot less expensive than adding an actual wooden frame.
