Waterproof Paper Bag Planters

Because my huband and I move homes quite a lot, we have built up quite the collection of Packing paper in our garage.. Which is super handy because I happen to really love the stuff!
Aside from it’s most obvious function (wrapping fragile items for parcel travel if you didn’t know), kraft paper is great for doodling on and for …. making planter bags! Especially water proof ones like these below! See here for more of my planter ideas
Ill talk you through it but first here is what youll need
- Brown packing paper / Kraft paper – I used a 50mm x 10m roll
- Glue or glue gun
- Contact paper (matt) – Just a note, if you’re in the UK, then this is called Sticky Back Plastic - I worked with a similar kind of paper when I wallpapered my floor
- Tape
- Black sharpie pen (optional)
- Stencil (optional)
HOW TO:
Cut the packing paper into a square shape and apply the contact paper to one side of the packing (kraft paper)
Neaten the edges with scissors
Fold the paper so the two edges meet in the middle - secure with glue or tape...
Fold the bottom half of the paper up
Then make a diamond shape - this wil become the base. Secure with tape
give the whole 'bag' a scrunch for a more texturized look
You can also stencil a pattern or wording to the bag if you want. Now pop your plants in and enjoy.
I did test this out too: The water from the pot drainage holes didn’t soak through the planter bag. I was even able to take the plant pots out and wipe around the inside with no problems!

I might use spray adhesive to glue a few layers of black garbage bag to the craft paper (Instead of contact paper), and then it’s definitely leak proof. You could then layer the bottom with rocks for drainage, and plant a nice house plant 🌱 right inside of it 😊. Thanks for the inspiration!
