You might need to talk to, and it might be helpful to, talk to your condo association first. They may be able to help, especially if this is a problem for others.
Yep as I am on the board. According to the association the Patio is ours however whatever we do it needs to look nice and be brought for their approval! I am hoping that the other effected bottom floor owners may want to do the same if we can come up with something that will work!
Thanks,
Hi Deanna, it's not just a case of diverting the water from your patio, it's: then where does it go? This is a topography issue for the entire building. Glad you're on the board. Have it approved to get an engineer out to evaluate how to stop the problem for the long term. Then take the engineer's recommendations. Water can undermine the entire structure of the building.
They tried the Engineer thing before we purchased our condo. It is my understanding the solution cost them $15,000.00 and created more of a water problem and then another Engineer told them to close up the $15,000.00 solution and they are still having problems. There is a drain at the low end of the property that catches the water. I think the drain is not being cleared on a regular basis of debris which doesn't help. I am taking charge of that but in the meantime I have to protect my interior of my condo. I am tied of cleaning of muddy water from my carpet and I do not want to deal with mold as well.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I appreciate it!
Deanna
We had the same issue and my husband laid down oressure treated deck boards so any water collected under the boards and dried up
Cinder blocks would be the best at keeping water out.
They can be painted in colors that match the walls
