Any advice on how to build a wood fence to keep sound out?

Regret to say that wood is not a good sound barrier. Noise/sound is very hard to mitigate. Sorry there may not be a simple solution to the problem
You could build a fence, then plant evergreen trees in front of it, if you have the room for them, or you could plant a staggered double row, witout a fence if all you need is a noise barrier. Do a search on sound barrier fencing, I saw a good article at The Spruce, among others.
If you really want wood, you need to use something like tongue and groove boards that will make a really solid barrier.
