Metal or aluminum if you can afford it. Depends on what you like. We have vinyl and I love it. You can get the vinyl that looks like weathered wood, it just won't bow or come apart or sag. Wood looks great the first year, but to me it's a lot of maintenance.

Metal posts will last longer but wood is easier for me to work with.
We like the steel ones the best for permanent use. Also, we ordered post SLEEVES to go on over the T posts. They make it more decorative. They are inexpensive and come in several choice colors.
then to keep it uniform use wood posts
I would do metal. in fact I have used metal. Mainly because metal is stronger and if you place them deep enough ( as I hope you would) the metal post wont get the damage like wood posts often do over time.
