Best fence post material

I need to build at least a six foot high fence and make a large yard area for my very active dogs, and I have to auger/drill through bedrock limestone for my fenceposts. I am wondering if I would be better off with metal posts and attach the wood with the brackets you buy for the cross pieces, or to put in treated 4 x 4's. The fence will also be on a hill on two sides

Since you can use brackets to attach your board fence, I would go with metal.

Only because you said "active dogs." And a metal post is usually smaller in diameter which would require a smaller drilling time and work in bedrock.
