Have you considered using lattice and maybe plant a climbing vine like honey suckle on it? or English Ivy perhaps. They come in vinyl and several colors. That is what I would use. You may need a couple 2 x 4's also to brace it.
What kind of a barrier and what for??? Wooden fence? Live plants? So many choices and so little information.....
We have been planting a living fence, with arborvitae‘s and Leland cypress trees every spring. We are finding the best deal at Costco. If you have the room for them and they are friendly to your planting zone you might wish to consider them.
