Hi Betsy,
A fence won't keep leaves out of your yard because the wind will blow them over the top. Especially a picket fence because it has room between the slats for leaves to blow through. We have an 8 foot board on board fence around our patio and the leaves still blow in. :( However, if you'd like a fence, here's a tutorial to get you started. Wishing you the best.

I have a picket fence with no trees overhanging the fenced area. I love the picket fence but this area ends up with the same amount of leaves as the rest of the yard. Unless you want a picket fence for aesthetic reasons, then don't build one thinking it will keep the leaves out. Good luck!
I get fall leaves from neighbors yards and spring leaves from my Live Oak trees. If you find a way to keep leaves out of the yard, PLEASE SHARE THAT WITH ME! I spend 11 months of every year picking up leaves!
Hi Betsy, sadly a fence won't do the trick for this problem, but I hope this helps you out,

Hi there, you can certainly build one from scratch if you check out your local lumber yard or home improvement store. They sell pickets that can be affixed to board to create a picket fence. However, I would really urge you to check out their premade fencing as it is often even cheaper than building it yourself.
