How can I make my deck more rain proof without sacrificing sunlight?

At your big box fix it store are colored plastic or corrugated tin sheeting you can get to fix this problem. The workers will tell you what you need to do the project. Some even have worksheets or you can google it on utube. 😊

Translucent Fiberglass corrugated panels can be found at big box home improvement stores. Overlap at least 3 groves so they don't leak during a rain. You can also get polycarbonate panels but they are much more expensive.

Clear plasric bags. Tack them up for the season. Take them down in winter. Easy and cheap.

I’ve used the corrigated fiberglass or plastic panels over my decks. And last year covered my grill gazebo with the heavier corrigated asphalt panels. Keeps us dry and still allows for light.

Lowes or Home Depot have clear plastic roof panels. I have them on my workshop that act as skylights. They're great.

I agree with everyone else....the corrugated sheets of clear or opaque plastic is your best option. And it's cheap enough that you can replace any sheet fairly easy and inexpensively. That extends the life of the cover immensely!

Colored bubble wrap lends a bit of hue to the sun light and lasts better than you think it would.

I want to do this over our deck also but we get a lot of snow in the winter and I am afraid it will weigh down the deck. Would be a lot of trouble for us to take the panels down so just have to live with not a lot of shade. Your patio is so pretty.

Hi, We built a large horse barn 30 yrs ago, used the clear roofing sheets above the individual stalls in the barn so the horses would have lots of light but it would also keep the hot sun - we have up to 108 degree days in the summer - off them. Our winters get as low as -26 degrees F and some winters we have lots of snow, up to 4ft, some winters hardly any snow. None of the roofing panels have ever caved in, leaked, or had to be replaced!
