How do I build a maintenance free walkway to the front door of my home
Our front door is never used because nobody wants to walk across the thick lawn. Our farm is for sale, due to poor health, and I need an inexpensive, maintenance free walkway, that can be mowed over, from the driveway to the front steps. I will also use aspects of this idea to create a fire pit area. Thanks

You can use pavers and sink them into the ground far enough so you can mow over them.
Hi Lyn; Dig the area for the walk down about 6", spread a good base of sand down {at least 3" deep}, pack the sand down hard, cover the entire area with landscaping fabric so the rain, etc. can run through it, lay some stepping stones {or tiles, concrete blocks, etc. - whatever is cheapest in your area}, fill in between and around the stepping stones with Polymeric Sand {can be purchased at Home Depot, etc.} , sweep any & all the polymeric sand off the stepping stones, lightly spray the sand with water, then let the sand and area dry - the sand will harden like grout and will become a nice level walkway. Do be sure to follow all the directions on the package of the sand so it works properly. Good Luck!
You could put large blocks and you could weed eat around them! I got a work weed eater and it’s much smaller and lighter than the others but it gets it done! Depending on how many you need, could be expensive! I just buy a few at a time until I get what I need! If you want them even with the ground, it’s a lot of work!
Worx weed eater
If you want a low maintenance walkway, use 12" concrete stepping stones. I would not mow over it though as it will ruin the mower blades. This will get you started!

You could set down pavers where you want the walk way. Dig out spots for the pavers and pour out playground sand and set the pavers. You can put a little grass seed around the pavers, but the grass should fill in around them. If your yard is really flat, you can mow over them if set down deep enough. Not much work or expense. Do the same for the fire pit area. Perhaps a different kind of rock for the pit itself.
