Absolutely beautiful! I would have set the footings for a cover while the flagstone was being installed. Do you want a full coverage patio cover? Or a pergola? A full cover will make it dark and trap heat. Great in winter, but not so much in summer. Here is a pergola option.

I would bury 4x4 pressure treated boards in the ground right were it meets the patio then run your header between then you should be able to attach rafters to house and header
Install a pergola and then put an ondura roof on it. Or...for a less expensive option use clear panels made from plastic.
A non-construction option would be to attach a retractable awning on the side of the building.
Ah, understand, Julie. Considering that, then my next best suggestion would be a pergola, as has been suggested by others.
Julie, native Texan here...! I had an auto retractable awning @ my last home. They come with wind sensors that will close the awning if the wind gets up. Mine was a Sunsetter. It was pricey and I loved it!
