How do I build a simple patio cover?
We are moving to a retirement community where we will have a small patio (6ft x 15ft) I'd like to build an open cover with redwood 2 x 4s so I can hang my planter baskets, bird feeders, etc. I'd bolt a. 2x4 on the cottage wall over the door to support the crossbeams and use 4x4 posts on the other side. Would it be better to have the 4x4s freestanding, bolted to the retaining wall outside and below the railing or set in the ground with concrete?
