How do you attach 4x4 posts to a porch?
I want to build a summer room onto my deck - which means I want to add a roof and surround the outside with windows. But I am just not sure on how to attach the posts for the roof.

That would add a lot of weight to your existing posts and footings. You need expert advice.
Try searching the term "metal brackets for framing wood" for possibilities. Metal brackets are available at most big box construction suppliers.
