Put up a couple of painted pallets to hide it or use white picket fence sections. Leave plenty of room around it so it can breathe.

Home improvements stores sell pvc fencing for that issue.

I built a 3 sided screen using pallet & lathe. I built a frame then stapled the lathe to the frame. It made it through the winter however high winds knocked it down. I tied it with a rope in the back to hold it in place. It took longer to stain than it did to build.

i am looking at the same issue at my house. I am going to use the white lattice that is made of a heavy plastic. I thought about the wood panels but then I was worried about painting and sealing the wood. I have found that Lowes has a set of three panels that fit together to hide the unit. It keeps about 2' of space between the lattice and the unit which is what my AC guy said I needed. Oh yea, it is made to sit it in place so it can be easily moved if your unit requires maintenance.
