We use the same ones, just clear any ice or snow off the ledge after each snow, etc.

  • Have you tried fly through feeders?

I use a fly through feeder all year long. I put the lid from a garbage can over the top of the feeder. I had to drill a hole thru the lid to allow the wire of the holder of the feeder to fit thru the lid. You could use anything kind of dome shaped just make a hole in the center , cause you will have to lift it to enable you to pour the bird seed into the top of the feeder. Birds really love that it keeps the rain and snow out of the feeder.

    Hi Tamara,

You will need Plastic Bottle + plastic plate + plastic drinking Straw + wire or twine.

    1. Cut Two holes in bottle 3" up from base for access (one either side)
    2. Pierce hole in bottle to take straw for bird perch.
    3. Cut hole in Plate and place over neck of bottle to form roof.
    4. Replace cap of bottle and wire to make hanging Hook etc.
    5. Fill with Bird Seed - hang out and watch!............

Tamara, You can cut a 2 liter bottle, on the side, and run a hook through the top. This will give you a deep bottom. Next, put some duct tape over the places you cut out, so the birds don't cut themselves. Aloha!

I have more than birds coming to my feeders. small ones the coons would carry away. used sections of old gutters, drilled holes so water would drain out and nailed it to the edge of deck railing. we did have to add braces to keep it from sagging when "Big Momma" coon sat on it.
