If you could by me my next project

It would be two big white lattices hammered up against my house, and having some kind of colorful flowers vine up the lattice. And this is where I put it. Between the windows. ☺

sounds great to me! Although I would have liked to see a distance picture to visualize.

Be aware that some vine-ing plants like ivy or cats claw.. can work their way under the siding and can cause damage to the siding. I would put in a freestanding pergola or lattice/trellis that does not connect to the house itself.... the look would be there... without actually touching the house...

I love your idea! I would probably buy long garlands of flowers from Hobby Lobby or Michaels so I could control the vines and have color all year long. I’m a plastics person. ☺️

I agree with Marty, the less you have attached to house the better for the sake of not compromising your siding.

A pergola would be nice, some of the vining plants can overwhelm. Make a good selection with low maintenance-maybe consult your local nursery for suggestions of plants with your purpose in mind.

I agree...I know from experience. We bought a house that looked so charming with vines all on one side of the brick. We decided to freshen the look of the house and wanted to paint the brick off white with dark shutters. The ivy had to go and it was a nightmare. We were luck it was brick. It will destroy siding if you ever need to rip it off to paint. I like the idea of a shallow pergola....with maybe a porch swing in the middle. White shutters on the windows would look nice too. Please don't use plastic (sorry Jewel). Plastic often fades outside. Keep things natural outside.

Stay away from vines near your house. We had a vine growing up the back of our garage when we bought this last house. We immediately started to remove it. What a nightmare! It had worked its way between the block wall and the roof and had lifted it some. The vine was 2 inches thick! The vine was growing about 4 feet inside the garage. If you want to add something between the windows, go for a few evergreen and flowering shrubs planted a few feet away from the foundation.

I just opened the whole picture and didn't realize these windows were at ground level. Scratch the idea of shutters at that height. I like Red's idea of a pergola even better since it would be higher than the windows and fill in the blank area above and between them. Even a stationary bench would be nice under the pergola. If you are set on vines, you might want to think of the type that fans out at the top, but don't attach it to the house. These can stand alone if they are set deep enough and have a discreet support on the back. Lattice is really a bit outdated. (sorry again!) I see a lot of fencing and vining frames and heavy gauge wire panels. They sort of disappear and show off the plants. Jasmine and Honeysuckle are two climbing plants that are not as tough as Ivy, but be sure to check a local garden center.
