In what and where is the best place to store birdseed?

We don't have a place in the house or a shed to keep our bird seed so I had kept it in a rubber bin on the carport. Varmints chewed through it!!! Then I got a metal trash can to keep the sacks of feed and the scoop, funnel, etc. in. The lid fit tight but water got into the seed. I thought maybe it was condensation so my husband drilled real small holes near the top so it would equalize the moisture better. Now it is getting moisture in the sacks and spoiling the seed. Any suggestions. We have squirrels that get into everything so thought I had them beat with the metal can. Thank you for any suggestions.

It may seem like overkill, but could you put a smaller vinyl bin inside the metal trash can? That would keep the moisture out , but still provide the protection of a metal can.
I use a plastic fifteen lb cat/dog food container. It sits by the door to the deck, inside. Raccoons can get in any container if left outside. This does not take up that much space.
I use a step trash can with a removable liner. Picked up on deep discount as they were dented. Since they hold birdseed and live in the garage, I do not care. Pour the seed out of the bags, the seed needs air circulation, especially in a humid climate.
I use a tote and put a scoop in it and set it on the back deck. Out of the way and easy to grab when time to fill birdfeeders.
I use small galvanized trash cans for my seed (like the metal garbage cans). You can get them at any hardware store. Mine are 16-18 gal. Haven't had any varmants chew holes in them!
Do you pore the seed from the bags or leave it in the bags?
