Is it better to build a new deck or repair the existing and add on?

The supporting boards on my deck have separated from the front of the deck and is unsafe. The deck is over 20 years old but the boards are in decent condition and can be powerwashed. I'd like to expand the deck and I'm hoping to just repair the old and add on the new!

That would be fine as long as there isn't any dry rot on the joists. Go through and inspect each piece thoroughly, you can use what you have and just replace whats no good
Check with current codes. What you can and not do should be spelled out. I lived in 1 city that you had to keep a certain amount of green space.....if you “remodel “ it you will have to bring the structure up to current codes. Each area is different.
