Sail‘s are a cheaper alternative to pergola. You will need something to hang them on though. Like a tree or a pole?
Shade sails are available on Ebay at great prices they have hardware too. Also big box hardware store offer put together kits of various types and price ranges. Hope this helps

One more time, take 4 deep planters 4 pressure treated 4x4 post add cement, you will have to look on this site for how to do properly, make sure they are each in the same depth and are level vertically. Now connect them with 2x4 pressure treated wood at the top,screw in with appropriate screws for decking. You will need two people. Now to the top add additional 2x4 across in the direction the sun is strongest the amount of wood can be less if you add lattice overhead,although you still need some 2x4's you can use less. Since you have connected all 4 post with wood you now have an approximate 8 ft square. Add some lights a table and enjoy.
