I need to put up a substantial fence but 3-4 posts have already been in place and then taken out - how can I put up a final fence across a concrete driveway? Do I dig up the cement?

    Hi Liz,

Here is what you'd have to check into regarding specifications for your fence, each township has rules, regulations, and zoning ordinances for fences across driveways. You might also need a permit:

This is where a picture would have been helpful, we can't see where the posts were put in and then taken out, or what they look like. Or why they were taken out.

It would also depend on the type of driveway fence you have plans on installing, a gate that swings open, slide across, electric, remote operated...

Please write back and give more information (and a picture if possible), we'd love to help.

You can drill into the existing slab or you could use post holders. This is something that is rather common for decks. As for the holes, depending on where they are and surrounding area you can fill with concrete or dirt.

it is a fence parrallel to a neighbors- I am sick looking at their yucky bamboo fence and we are allowed 7 foot high fences so the plastic /vinyl fences do not go high enough and wood fades to an ugly grey - just lost what to do - just an old person trying to figure this out

Hello. That might depending on the type of fencing that you’re using - would the with a gate be metal or woo? The weight might be an indicating factor of the support structure it might need. Will it be a swinging gate a sliding gate or a motorized gate? A little more information could be helpful.

Agree with Betsy simpliest thing would just be to paint your side of the fence. But only after talking to the neighbor and getting their permission.

Just curious why would you put posts in place and then take them out? Did I misread that?

there is no fence on my side and they have chain link covered in ratty bamboo - we are allowed to put up 8 foot high fences as it is a side yard and it will parallel to their bamboo covered chain link fence. I need sturdy, long lasting, tall, secure- not vinyl that the wind can blow over and it only comes in 6 foot that are not real 6 foot but actually 5'9". 8 feet fo something sturdy. I can cut up the cement and then put poles in and/or posts-either metal or wood - need substantial... completely blocking their ratty fence and their garbage dump back yard!!!

Call a company that installs fences and get a quote.

We put up a cedar woven fence last year. Add privacy, gives us somewhere to install our solar motion sensors along the driveway and looks good too.

    Super easy to diy.

My back cyclone fence is 10' panels set with posts that are as wide as my single car driveway.

Put posts for the door on the sides of the driveway then have the doors close over driveway.

Hi Liz, if you don't need it to have a gate, you can use the method in the attached video,

If you need to get through it, you could put a swinging gate on wheels that can be easily opened and closed
