Steel or titanium. A tip would be to make a dent where you plan to drill, never hold the piece of silverware with your hand, use a C clamp lined with leather or rubber to prevent marring and ruining your piece.
A steel or titanium bit will work. Be sure to wrap the silverware in a soft cloth or towel and clamp it to prevent slipping.
Here's an article with instructions.

High speed steel or titanium coated bit. Best to drill a small pilot hole first. 1/8" to 1/4" to start. Then go with the bit size you want.
One suitable for drilling through metal.
Hi Susan, make sure to use drill bits designed for metal: i.e. steel or titanium and clamp the piece. NEVER hold a piece by hand, especially something like silverware - when you drill. I suggest a C clamp lined with leather or rubber to avoid scratching or damaging the piece.

A bit made of steel or titanium will work. To prevent slippage, be careful to wrap the silverware in a soft cloth or towel and clamp it.
You will need a thin steel drill bit for metal.
A bit for metal should handle this. If you have a spare utensil, test on that before you try the real piece.
Hi Susan , you will need a bit that is designed to drill through metal. Cobalt (HSCO) is considered an upgrade from HSS because it includes 5-8% Cobalt blended into the base material. This is a great option for drilling into harder steel as well as stainless steel grades. Carbide (Carb) is the hardest and most brittle of the drill bit materials. Hope this helps you out.
