What depth should you put foundation posts when making a deck?

    Hi Maree, When you contact your local building department to get your building permit, ask what the frost depth requirement is and the required size and shape of the footings. Then dig the footing holes so that the bottoms of the footings are at or below the frost depth.

    depends on water your area government requires. Personally I use 3 foot

    I would imagine it all depends on the size of the deck and how high off the ground it is going to be, but I definitely think you should go below the frost line.

    This depends on your choice. Either you want it the same hiegth as your home, or a diff. in between the two. Best wishes, J.

    Most building codes require a depth to the frost line for stability.
