I am always picking up things from the side of the road and re purposing them. Or donating them to the local thrift after they are fixed/cleaned. Keep it out of the landfill is my goal. Here are two recent ones I found.
The neighbors moved out and left this swan for garbage pick up. Solid wood. The neck that should have been mounted to the body was coming loose. I fixed it and gave it a coat of paint. Here it is in it's new home.
Another neighbor threw out this old cedar chest. One leg was busted off and the lid had come apart. I dragged it home on my cart.
A view of inside. Perfect cedar. All my veggie beds are made of cedar.
Here the cedar chest has been taken apart and made into two more veggie beds. The sides still need fastened and I will knock out a couple of the bottom boards for drainage. But this is what the beds will look like. Cedar is a beautiful wood, will last a very long time and naturally repels some insects. Cedar is expensive. And this is 1 " wood boards. A real treasure of a find.
Inside the chest were these two heart shaped pieces of cedar. : )
