You'll need to figure how long, how deep, multi levels, what finish, where and how to hang, with sides or floating. One you've figured that out look to YouTube for a tutorials on making that type of shelf.
Is this the type of shelving you were looking for?
If you want it kid friendly, you can simply attach a gutter piece to the wall. This also works for children's books etc. To put up higher for safe keeping, you can get L shaped brackets that screw into the wall and the pine board you can get at home improvement. Be sure to know where the 2x4's are in the wall to hit a stud firmly. You can buy a stud finder too or knock lightly on the wall and listen for the sound to change to find the studs.
