first is to find the wall's studs- the upright 2x4 holding the wall in place, that's what you want to screw the shelf brackets in to. now, about the shelves, there is a system that uses metal uprights and is slotted to hold the brackets for the shelves. the brackets come in differing widths, you need to supply the wood planks as shelves. i covered my wood pieces in contact paper for easy cleaning,
You can purchase "project boards" at the hardware store and even have them cut them to size! Then use brackets to secure to the studs in your walls.
I purchased white wire shelving and brackets from Lowes or Home Depot 20 plus years ago to use in my laundry room. They have ideal places to hang my newly dried clothes on hangers so they don't wrinkle till I can get them to the closet. I keep my extra hangers handing on the shelving all the time so I always know where a hanger is. I can also use clothes pins to hang a a bra or two clipped to the wire shelf. If you are worried about something falling through the wires I placed vinyl place mats from the dollar store down on the wire in some places or you could use colorful small baskets on the shelves. Good luck.
