Once upon a time.. okay I'll dispense with the fairy tale beginnings. This Spice box began life as a pine board which was a fence at our home in North Carolina.
I had a coworker ask me to make a box for some barbecue rubs that he had purchased from local merchants in the Tampa area. I had built furniture, shelves, desks, picture frames but somehow never a box.  I was excited to get started and immediately had a vision for how the box would look and the design elements I wanted to showcase
YOU GOTTA START SOMEWHERE!! Look Familiar? it should! you have probably walked by hundreds of old wooden fences in your lifetime and many of them start to fall apart after a while and since they are old, warped and broken homeowners will simply toss them.

Don't-cha just love clamps!!! I had to straighten out all that mess before I had a clean slate to work with
a little Before and after or is it "during?" oh well it's starting to look cool!!!

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN!!! We have a box!!! folks don't fret this is easier then it looks and yes I over engineered, It's how I learn! just try something you never know!!
I just liked this pic. this is the top of the box which has a sliding top to open and close and if you can see the pencil marks inside that's where I cut the slots for the spices. "completely uneccessary but oh so much fun!

  • Reclaimed pine fence material   (recycled but you can purchase these boards at big box stores)
