Are your electricity bills going up and you are looking to save some energy?

You can actually save some energy during the day and the best way is to install a skylight that allows natural night to come inside your house and you do not require turning on the lights during the day.

https://hotwire-electric.com/

First step is to choose the location on your roof where you want to install the skylight and it’s better to select a place where you get more sun and also the room which is darker.

Next step is preparing to install the dome of the skylight. You need to decide how many tiles you need to remove from the roof and mark the tiles that need cutting.

Then you need to cut the tile batten and the surrounding tiles by first marking it. Make sure to wear your safety glasses and earmuffs while cutting the tiles. Now put the tiles back in place and put the dome over them. Ensure that the dome fits well.

Now the important step is to install the Mylar tube and dome. Before installing the dome ensure that you pull the Mylar tube over the back of it and use a silver tape to secure it. Fit the Mylar tube into the roof space and tuck the skylight dome under the surrounding tiles putting it in place.

Make the dome waterproof by using silicone. This can also be useful to prevent any leaks in future. Then shape the flashing around the dome and seal the flashing by using more silicone.

Cut a hole in the ceiling to install the diffuser for that you need to know where the joists are. You can use a stud finder for locating the joists. After selecting the position measure the width of the ceiling and mark out a centre line.

Use the diffuser as a template and cut a hole in the ceiling. Through the hole pull the Mylar Tube from the roof space. Trim it if it is not in right length.

Fit the diffuser into the hole using a drill. Screw it well and secure it into the plaster using the plastic tabs. Make sure to tighten the screws.

You are almost done just a final touch is required.Pull the Mylar tubing down the edge of the template and secure it using a silver tape. Run the tape round the edge of the template. To install the diffuser band it carefully and fit it inside the template.

Your Skylight is ready, save energy and enjoy the natural light.

Sun tubes are another option. They are alot less expensive and are easy to install.
