Construction adhesive in a caulk gun rocks! And ditto on what Kelli said.
You can try. But how would you cover the exposed edges, seams and compensate for added thickness.
How big of an area are you talking? If it's just a little area then yes, you probably could do that... but William is right about the added thickness and edging. You'll need to probably make a custom edging.
