Burlap Woven Heart Basket

Take a classic paper craft and turn it into a fabulous and innovative look with burlap and mod podge.
This is a super easy classic paper or felt craft done with stiffen burlap.
Using oval patterns of burlap coated with mod podge in the shape of a "heart," cut loops are woven through and around to create an in and out look for each row. The first white loop is inserted through the open red loop and around the
next red loop and through the open red loop and around the last red loop. The next row is started the opposite way. Each row is pushed closer to the end cuts after completion.
Once all of the loops are woven, the competed "heart" looks awesome!
Open the heart to imagine all the wonderful items you can put in there.
Add a handle using a strip of burlap or ribbon glued to the inside of the heart basket. You can fill the basket with candy, flowers, or even jewelry for that special occasion.

I made these every year at Valentine's Day when my kids were in school. I made them super-sized from 181/2 X 11 heavy duty construction paper. They collected their valentines from friends in these "basket hearts". I miss those days.

I learned how to make these...paper ones, on a cruise ship. I had forgotten all about them. Thank you so much for jarring that memory! I can’t wait to make some like this!
