Most people these days have an essential oil diffuser in their home, or have at least heard of one. Essential oils have so many wonderful health benefits and diffusing them into the air is a wonderful way to set a nice atmosphere in your home. Depending on what blends you use you can make your home feel and smell warm and cozy, fresh and clean, or even diffuse a blend that promotes relaxation and sleep.

Essential oil diffusers can do so much for us, and if you are like me and use it daily it’s likely that it will need a good deep clean once a month. The interior of the diffuser can get pretty gross, pretty quick and if you think about it all of that buildup is also getting diffused into the air every time you use it. Gross!

So, next time you go to fill up your diffuser take a good look at it and take 5 minutes to give it a good deep clean! Your home and your nose will thank you!

All you need to thoroughly clean and disinfect your diffuser is some rubbing alcohol, a few cotton pads and a couple of cotton swabs.

This is what the inside of my diffuser looked like before cleaning. Some of the darker oils have caused some staining but most of this is buildup that needs to be cleaned off.

The lid is also in need of a good cleaning. On this particular diffuser I am able to separate the parts of the lid for easier cleaning. This way I am able to really get into every little nook and thoroughly clean it.

Begin by unplugging your diffuser and removing the cord (if your model allows).

Pour in equal parts rubbing alcohol and water. I like to use this old little medicine cup. It holds a little over 15 mls and that amount is perfect for this job. One cupful water and one rubbing alcohol.

I then like to take a cotton swab and very gently clean around the ultrasonic ceramic disc in the middle. After I have cleaned that I go around and clean the rest of it.

The lid was especially dirty as you can see. Once the I interior has all been cleaned I like to use a cotton pad to wipe the exterior down.

Once everything is nice and clean dump out the water and alcohol solution and give the interior a good rinse, being careful not to get the cord/outlet wet.

Dry with a clean cloth and your diffuser is now ready to use.

And here you can see what a difference this makes! The lid looks brand new again!

Cleaning your diffuser regularly will keep it running longer and more efficiently. The air quality in your home will also be improved and the essential oils will be able to do their job properly!

I like to give my diffuser a good cleaning once a moth to keep it in tip top shape!

The instructions don’t say how long to keep the water/alcohol solution in the diffuser.
