How can I remove odors from my front loading washing machine?

I have begun leaving the door open in an effort to air the machine out after washes. It doesn't seem to help at all. I do my best to keep it clean and dry. However, there is evidently something in there that airing out doesn't cure.

You need to clean all the gaskets completely using white vinegar. You might even need to clean around the drum. Run a cleaning cycle with bleach then a second with nothing in the machine. continue to leave open for air drying as much as possible.

I add 1 cup vinegar in the rinse dispenser every now and then and I keep the washing machine lid proped up with a short roll of tightly rolled newspaper (taped) which holds the lid up about 3 inches. I have no oder problems. I did this from the start when I got my new washer. If your machine is older you may need to do what Kathy Law suggested (above) before you do what I suggested.

  • To eliminate smells, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda inside the drum. Add a cup of white vinegar into the detergent dispenser. Press start to run the washer empty on the hot water setting.
