    1. Fill a bottle with 2 ounces (60 milliliters) of hydrochloric acid.
    2. Leave some copper in the bottle for 1 week; don't close the lid.
    3. Dilute the acid with 1 gallon (3.8 L) of water.
    4. Paint a thin coat of the acid onto clean metal.
    5. Wait for the acid to dry.

I saw a show where they used toilet bowl cleaner on metal to make it rust. They scuffed it up a little with sandpaper and left it on overnight. They did it outside and kept it covered with plastic and then just washed it off with a hose. Wear gloves.

You can use vinegar to make metal rust quickly.

I second the vinegar! I've also seen where they used the toilet bowl cleaner method and it worked pretty well. Brenda's method will work but I would try it with vinegar first, then if that doesn't get what you desire use the toilet bowl cleaner. Hydrochloric acid is a dangerous chemical to mess with.
