Try putting grates in dishwasher and running thru a few times. The really hot water loosens the dirt and grease. Afterwards, run grates thru dishwasher weekly or bi-weekly.

Spray them good with easy off oven cleaner. Let them dry completely. Then wash off with soapy water. Any scum still remaiming can be removed with a brillo pad.

All you need is a bottle of ammonia and a large zip lock bag. You can also use a large plastic container that your stove parts will fit in. Place the stove parts in the bag or container, add a cup or more if needed of ammonia and let sit over night. The grease will wipe off. If the buildup of grease is too heavy you may have to repeat and scrub a little.

Works great, have done this a few times and you need very little ammonia as it's the fumes that cleans.

I use the ammonia in a plastic bag and set it outside overnight. Grim wipes off, no scrubbing and they look like new.
