A box of baking soda (the kind with the mesh window) in both the refrigerator and freezer.

Take all the shelves and drawers out. Wash and dry them thoroughly. Wash down all areas of the fridge, taking extra time with the rubber seals, knobs, trim, and corners. Use a toothbrush to get into where fingers cannot reach.

    See if this helps.

The baking soda works well and I keep an open box of it in my fridge ALL the time. Another way is to use charcoal briquettes like you use to grill with. Just be sure you purchase the one that have no fire starter mixed into them. Charcoal draws odors in and neutralizes them. Works it musty areas such as basements, etc.

Yes, charcoal definitely works in frigs! We bought a camper with a half sized frig that was so darn stinky I think someone left a fish in there to rot! I opened a small bag of charcoal briquettes and set it inside the frig, closed the door and waited four days. The smell was completely gone after 4 days! Just use the cheapest bag of charcoal briquettes you can find (same kind you use for a bbq). Good luck! I threw my bag of charcoal away but you could probably still use them to grill afterwards. I didn't want that stink on my grilled food!

Besides the above, Sometimes when I take out the drawers I find something spilled and ran under them or behind them. I also am a big user of baking soda in the fridge and keep an open box there. I clean with Simple Green as it is mild, and is deodorizing as well as disinfecting, for a very clean inside and out fridge
