You'll need a sheet of 600 grit sand paper and a can of Rustoleum Appliance Paint. Lightly sand the rusty spots then wipe clean of all dust. Let dry. Tape off areas you do not want painted. Shake can thoroughly then spray paint the top with left to right movements providing an even coat of coverage. A light coat is best, let dry, sand if necessary, then apply a second coat. You can do this and you'll be happy with your project. (I did a refrigerator and was happy the outcome.) Best of luck.

If only a litle, you could try WD-40.
