Sarah...You can use shiplap, vinyl, any type of wall covering, even wallpaper.
I have the back of mine plain with 1 shelf. The shelf has some lavender in a vase, poo-pourri, and a little bit of cotton for decoration.
Do you have a photo you can share to help us think of ideas for you? :)
