How do I move a dark ring in a toilet?
Due to an issue with city water, my newerb low-flow toilet now has a black ring at the water level which I cannot remove. I've tried baking soda, Coke, denture cleaner, Lysol bowl cleaner, etc. I did see someone used Borateem on a stain, I'll try that, too. I recently saw where someone used Kool-Aid. Has anyone tried this? With my older toilet, I had no problem eliminating the stain. Most likely the difference in the materials it is made of. This stain makes it look like I never clean my toilet! Also, I have crusty build-up in the older toilet, around the top, front and back. I've tried lime away, but didn't have a lot of success with that. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Lindsey, sorry you are having problems with black ring in your toilet. Hope this will help. I also heard you can use alka-seltzer tabs to clean your toilet ring. Good luck. Just scrubbing the toilet's tank will not entirely get rid of the black ring in your toilet. If the black ring is from hard water deposits, you will need to use vinegar in the toiletto break up the hard water deposits before you scrub the black ring again. Bleach will kill mold and mildew as well as sewer organisms.

We have similar water. I pour white vinegar in the bowl to soak over night or all day if we are going to be gone. Then scrub it out. If there is a little left I use Mr. Clean toilet bowl scrubber to finish the rest. The vinegar is repeated as needed. Hope this helps LIndsey.
Hello! That black ring can be very stubborn. I have used vinegar on calcium build ups. It takes a lot of scrubbing.... hard bristle brush. Clorox will kill any fungus buildup. Let it sit for a while, .. I then use pine sol ( a little bit) every night before we go to bed. It helps when its finally clean.
Try this trick. Buy a lemonade packet. Yes! A no sugar lemonade packet. Like Koolaide. Turn off toilet water, flush toilet, sprinkle lemonade koolaide on your “ring”. Leave a while about 20 minutes. Turn water back on and flush again. Not sure how bad the ring is but this should work.
I have heard that denture tablets work also.
Two suggestions. I had blue ring from using one of those colored drop in cleaners. Nothing seemed to work. Over a period of 6 months or so, just from use, the ring is almost unnoticeable. The other thing would be to use a bleach drop in, in the tank and then every time you flush the stain would get soaked in bleach.
Try a pumice stone.
While a pain, I do it. I have a used medicine dropper bottle that I fill with plain bleach. Every night as I flush and all the bowl is emptying and refilling, I add a squirt of the bleach. thus is does not contact all the items in the storage tank, it just goes in the bowl. Works great, just a bit of time.
Really you should try a pumice stone there are small pumice stone sticks that work great for hard water deposits in toilets ....professional cleaners/janitors have used them for many years...
